The FLŌA Backcountry Baselayer is, backcountry specific, but not exclusive

We’ve redefined what it means to produce high performance base layers, but here’s what makes our products perfect for the backcountry, and why we claim to be a 'backcountry specific baselayer'

In selling our new baselayer on Kickstarter, we had a few questions about why our baselayer is 'backcountry specific' and what makes it that specific. The backcountry is a demanding environment. A place where we’re able to test ourselves against nature in the most uncompromising ways possible.

Unlike the groomed runs of the resort, the backcountry is devoid of safety barriers and lift queues. While the terrain offers an untouched beauty and smoothness, the good stuff is not accessed from a five minute chair lift, and you’ll be forced to put in the hard sweat-breaking work to get into prime powder.

The Backcountry Needs Taking Seriously

Everything is worth more in the backcountry, while the effort and risk is higher out in the wilds, so too are the rewards.

In a realm where every movement counts, where an edge dug in too deep can mean the difference between making the descent, or digging yourself out of the snowpack, you need to do everything in your power to ensure you are performing at your absolute best.

Bringing your A-Game is about much more than a mental state of consciousness. It begins with attention to detail and ruthless preparation. That runs through from your equipment, to your food supplies and weather assessment.

It’s through our love of the backcountry that FLOA and our desire to build next level base layers was born. We weren’t just looking for a layer of clothing to help keep us warm, we wanted to design a revolutionary new base layer that would take care of the rigorous demands of time spent in the mountains.

So We Constructed A Serious Baselayer

With the increased demand on our body, we incorporated mapped compression. This provides enhanced support when out hiking up peaks, and works to help prevent muscle fatigue on longer more challenging descents.

Breathability is key, but so is comfort. That’s why we have engineered a merino and polyester blended fabric with mearrow stitching and folded cuff finish.

This allows FLŌA baselayers to give you four way stretch at the same time as superior breathability and moisture wicking, keeping your skin dryer, for longer.

As well as keeping you dry, our development process ensures that there are no seams to chaffe or rub. This is vital as distractions like this can take your attention away from the task at hand and impede your performance on the mountain.

Performance Is Everything

When you’re deep in the backcountry, the crowds and the noise disappear. When you’re alone, facing nature in all its rawness, you don't have time to worry about getting cold, or being comfortable.

You need clothing and equipment you can rely on. A layer than sits against your skin and mimics your every movement. A fit so close you forget it’s even there, but notice when it's not.

It’s on these principles that we built FLOA and developed a new generation of baselayers that are specifically designed for the demanding needs of the backcountry.

If you have our Backcountry Baselayer, you'll soon forget you are wearing it. This is intentional. We believe your equipment should do what it is designed to do, without having to worry about if it is performing.

When it does perform, you won't have chaffing, tiredness, sweat, etc - if none of these are present then you'll be concentrating on what matters - performance.

In designing a baselayer that's backcountry specific, we have delivered something for tough conditions that also suits other uses for baselayers. That's why we say we are Backcountry specific but not exclusive, as our baselayers are equally at home in most environments similar to the Backcountry.
