OnTheSnow.com, known for its online snow reports, ski resort guides and gear reviews, announced earlier in July that iw Ould be closing its doors.
In a statement released on its website, OnTheSnow cited the financial struggles as a result of the pandemic in what was an already challenging media landscape.
The statement noted that OnTheSnow along with its European subsidiary, SkiInfo, would explore selling to or partnering with existing media outlets if there “is an opportunity to allow for a consistent or enhanced online experience.”
OnTheSnow had been in business for over 50 years and since 2010 had operated within the Vail Resorts portfolio after being purchased by the resort management company in 2010.
At its peak, OnTheSnow was the most heavily trafficked website in snowsports, with 23M unique global visitors in 2011.
Since then, emerging snow forecast websites, as well as competitors such as OpenSnow, PowderChasers, and Snow-Forecast, as well as shifts towards social media consumption contributed heavily to the brand’s down-turn.
