Side Hits: Our Favourite Video Edits This Season

by Nick Baines March 16, 2019

Motivational scenes to get you fired up and hungry for the mountains…

This season has seen some pretty inspiring video edits being dropped and the ante has most certainly been upped. The level of production, the soundtracks and the sheer power in some of these videos is at an all-time high. From pristine powder lines, to backcountry titans turning the lens on their crew, this collection of edits showcases the very best of the 2018-19 winter.

Yearning For Turning Vol.8 – Gone Boardin’

The regular edits from Korua Snowboards capture the very essence of fun and playfulness in the mountains. Complete with Euro-carving and side hits along the piste, it’s almost impossible to watch this edit and not be wearing an ear-to-ear grin by the end.

Close To Home

This Patagonia film follows Nicholas Wolken and his connection with a small cabin up in the hills. Maybe it’s the remoteness of this off-grid cabin, the clean open lines right outside the front door, or the effortless riding of Wolken, but this eight minute video has us itching to get out the door and hike.

Ode To The Steeps

This first hand insight into Jacob Wester’s winter is an inspiring watch. Wester is a guy who originally focused his skiing in the terrain park before curiosity got the better of him. He now loads up with a harness and full climbing gear in pursuit of untracked lines the hard way – but the rewards are totally worth it.

Skipping Stones

Todd Ligare is one of the best freeriders in the business.  This recent POV edit from up in Canada lets you experience British Columbia backflips and pillow lines in all their first-hand glory – and that final line is a belter!

IKIGAI: The Shin Biyajima Story

This short film was produced by Travis Rice who wanted to shine a light on an unsung hero. Shin Biyajima is a Japanese snowboarder who acted as his guide throughout production of the epic film The Fourth Phase. Biyajima is truly dedicated to finding fun in the mountains and this film is a pure pleasure to watch. It’s much more mellow and cruisey that your regular Travis Rice film, but it’s equally as inspiring.
